I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
I was thrilled they were opening a Chicago wedding venue near one of my favorite breweries. I knew my first Rockwell on the River wedding was bound to be a great one! Rockwell on the River is a stunning space—its industrial chic vibes pair perfectly with the backdrop of the Chicago River and skyline. Its prime location offers plenty to do, see, and taste in every direction. So, when Jessica first got in touch, I was ready to shoot there right away!
I first met Jessica, Scott, and their adorable pup during a sunny summer engagement session at Lincoln Park Zoo. Their connection was electric—they laughed nonstop and couldn’t stop grinning at each other, making me even more excited for their wedding day.
Fast-forward to their March wedding date. We kicked things off at their hotel on a rainy morning. I had a blast Styling Jessica’s stunning details (those flowers still blow my mind!) and capturing sweet moments with her family.
Rain tried to cramp our style, but we pivoted like pros! I suggested the Lyric Opera House for photos, which turned out to be a photogenic move. Scott’s reaction to Jessica during their first look? Absolutely priceless. We nailed all the wedding party shots in one go, keeping the stress levels low and the fun levels high!
At Rockwell on the River, a breathtaking open space and an unbelievable floral arch welcomed us in. The soft pastels and string lights were the cherry on top of the industrial aesthetic. Who says you can’t have a bit of contrast? We transitioned from family formals to an emotional ceremony filled with happy tears. Then, as night fell, the room buzzed with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and epic dance moves.
Once the rain eased up, we snuck out to the deck for some magical “blue hour” shots to wrap up the night. This Rockwell on the River wedding proves that love, nature’s unexpected beauty, and a gorgeous venue can create something unforgettable. Rain or shine, this day was pure magic. Dive in and soak up the joy of this colorful rainy-day celebration!
Rain on your wedding day? No need to stress—let’s make it magical instead!
First things first, change how you see rain. It’s not a disaster; it’s a memorable twist in your love story. Rain on your wedding day is considered good luck in many cultures—it symbolizes a fresh start and a strong, lasting marriage. So, embrace the good vibes and let the rain wash away any worries. Plus, who doesn’t love the romance of a rainy day? Cinematic magic!
Here in Chicago, you may want a backup plan that’s just as awesome as your first choice if you’re considering an outdoor ceremony. Whether it’s a tent with twinkling lights or a swanky indoor venue, make sure it screams you.
A little humor goes a long way. If possible on short notice, you could incorporate rain-themed favors or a cheeky “Singing in the Rain” playlist. You’ll all be smiling, no matter the weather!
Rain adds a distinctive shine that brings out the beauty in everything. Think of glistening raindrops, cozy umbrellas, and reflections in puddles. Everything is rinsed clean for a fresh canvas to play with. Plus, the lights have a warmer glow in darker skies.
If you’re tying the knot in the city, we’ll probably be able to find a covered outdoor area just like we did for this wedding so you can get those natural outdoor portraits without trudging out in the elements.
Rainy days often offer the perfect softbox for photography! (I’d honestly prefer it to full sun.) Embrace the chance for stunning, one-of-a-kind wedding photos.
Rainy days are like a built-in filter for your day. The soft light and muted colors can make your wedding feel intimate and warm. Add some string lights and candles. Vibe with the music. It’s all perfect for a cozy, intimate, and love-filled celebration. Depending on the season, you could even bring out coffee, tea, hot cocoa, cider, or mulled wine.
Grab some cute rain boots and clear bubble umbrellas. If it’s chilly, bring a rain jacket or elegant wrap. Not only will they keep you dry, but they’ll also add character and fond memories to your wedding photos. Bonus: they can be fun props!
Why not? You’re in love, it’s your day, and nothing can stop you. Kick off your shoes and dance. If you don’t want to get your dress wet, switch to a cocktail dress, and let’s have some fun!
Most importantly, remember why you’re celebrating. Rain or shine, it’s about marrying the love of your life. No matter what Mother Nature has in mind, this is your day to relax, laugh, and enjoy every moment.
Rain on your wedding day can be a beautiful, unforgettable experience. Embrace the unexpected, and let it add a splash of magic to your love story.
