I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
Are you ready to see my first destination Cancun wedding!? I know I’m still excited about it every time I see the photos, so I hope you’re ready for this 😉 I have received a few inquiries for Mexico weddings in the past, but they’ve always ended up going with someone else who had shot in Mexico before. So, when Sarah & Joe decided to take a chance on me, I was over the freaking moon! Not only was it amazing to book a destination wedding outside of the US for the first time, but I had a feeling we’d all click personality wise too, and I was right!
When I first showed up to Sarah & Joe’s beautiful new home for their in-home engagement session, I was greeted by two of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen- jackpot. We all had such a fun afternoon playing with the pups in their home, and then wandering around their Roscoe Village neighborhood. For December it was weirdly warm, so we got the best of both worlds doing indoor & outdoor photos.
Cut to a few months later in April, and the husband and I were on our way to Cancun! We (obviously) made a little trip out of it, and stayed in the city for a few days pre wedding, and then moved to the incredible resort they picked out- Haven Resorts in Cancun, Mexico. It was stunning, and this being my first experience with all inclusives, I finally got why people do them so much 😉 We spent the day lounging by the pool, swimming and reading, which was the perfect way to relax before the big day.
Now on to the wedding! Showing up to Joe’s room and seeing their details was so exciting- I loved everything they picked out to wear for the day, and had so much fun creating flat-lays for them (especially with a palm leaf I found while walking around the resort). The resort provided the florals and they did an amazing job! I love a simple, elegant boutonniere, and then an organic-shaped, neutral colored, bridal bouquet. And can we talk about Sarah’s dress!? The detailing was amazing and it looked perfect on her (I mean, they’re both so cute how could it not??).
They had a short & sweet ceremony overlooking the ocean, and then it was my favorite time- couple portraits! We walked the grounds and it was such a blast shooting in an environment like this. Palms are my favorite kinds of trees, so you know I was a happy camper with those everywhere, the incredible light, and of course this adorable couple. These two were probably my most chill couple I’ve ever worked with, so it was simply a dream situation.
We ended the night with a beautiful choreographed dance, tear-jerking speeches, lots and lots of laughter, and then of course, the dance party. All of their friends were so cute and fun, it made for some great dancing shots (which can be rare with a smaller group like this!). Finally, we popped outside for some nighttime photos, where they did a little more dancing, and we used the glow of the pool to get some fun blue color pops in the final portraits.
The next day we met up again for a post-wedding beach session! It was so humid that my lens fogged up the entire time, but it was still perfect! Sarah’s dress was the cutest, and it was so fun to chat with them about how the rest of their wedding night was, and hear their favorite memories of the day already. Overall, I still can’t believe I was able to do this destination Cancun wedding, and here’s to hopefully many many more <3
