I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
Let’s discuss a game-changing secret to next-level engagement photos: your outfits. Your wardrobe has the power to completely transform your session’s vibe, making your love story pop and your photos unforgettable. Have you been told to avoid bold colors, textures, or patterns for photos? Think again! If done well, complementary colors can look dazzling and show off your personality. Ready to slay your session style? Here’s how.
First, let’s give a standing ovation to bold pops of color. Think Veronica’s jaw-dropping red dress—hello, showstopper! Dresses like this practically demand attention, especially against a lush, monochromatic backdrop like greenery. Want to stand out (in the best way)? This is how you do it.
On the flip side, muted tones and soft neutrals can work a different kind of magic. Veronica’s flowy blue dress during their beach portraits is a perfect example. These soft hues bring your photos a sense of calm, connection, and intimacy. They’re timeless, romantic, and effortlessly chic.
And speaking of chic, let me tell you about Veronica and Daren’s absolutely swoon-worthy Chicago Lincoln Park engagement session. This shoot had everything: an adorable pup, gorgeous dresses, golden foliage, and the beach. Honestly, does it get better than that? Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.
We kicked things off on a perfect September evening at the classic Lincoln Park Zoo. Veronica and Daren brought along their ridiculously cute dog, and let me just say that my dog-loving heart was thriving during this shoot. Not sure if you should include your pets in your session? Always a yes. Not only does it make your photos even sweeter, but it also captures your little family in the most authentic way possible. Even if your furry friend is a little on the rambunctious side, you can bring a friend along to pup-sit during the session and take them home once they’re done starring in their portion.
But then, the session took things to a whole new level. Veronica stepped into a stunning beach-ready dress that looked like it was made for romance. And here’s the best part: these two didn’t just dip their toes—they went all in. Literally. They embraced the adventure, splashing in the water, and it made for some of the most breathtaking, playful, and joy-filled shots I’ve ever captured.
Oh, and the cherry on top? Since Daren proposed to Veronica on a beach in Hawaii (too bad we couldn’t return there!), we recreated that magical moment with a champagne pop. I was over the moon watching them relive such a special memory. The love, the laughter, the giggles—it was all so real, so raw, and so beautiful.
Pro Tip: I’m always down for a proposal recreation! Sometimes, you can’t have a photographer on hand, and that’s okay! You can absolutely capture the moment elsewhere. And yes, it will still have that same magic. I will guide you through it and do what I can to help the moment naturally unfold so you get that surprise factor.
As with all engagement sessions, these aren’t just pretty photos; this shoot celebrated Veronica and Daren’s bold, adventurous, and madly in love selves. It also vividly documented the extraordinary step they are taking together, hand in hand.
If you came here for engagement photo outfit ideas, I have a few more tips for ya! You want to look amazing and feel like yourself, right? This should get your wheels turning, and I’m happy to lend some input if you need it. Don’t hesitate to reach out as you plan for your session.
Start with Color
Color sets the mood. Soft, neutral tones create timeless, romantic vibes. Think blush, cream, sage, or light gray.
Want something bold? Deep jewel tones like emerald, navy, ruby, or burgundy add drama and richness. Just make sure your colors complement each other—and the location.
Play with Patterns
Patterns add personality but keep them subtle. A floral dress or plaid shirt can add visual interest without feeling too busy. If you choose a pattern, let your partner stick to solid colors for balance.
Add Texture
Texture makes photos feel alive. Chunky knits, lace, velvet, or denim add depth and dimension. Layer a sweater over a dress or pair a flowy skirt with a leather jacket for a relaxed yet stylish look.
So, here’s your takeaway: don’t be afraid to go big, bold, and personal with your outfits and ideas. Whether it’s a dramatic dress, a meaningful backdrop, or a nod to your proposal story, these details will turn your session into a one-of-a-kind reflection of your love.
