I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
Chicago winters may be chilly, but they’re perfect for warm, snuggly engagement sessions! I was thrilled when Sara and Chris shared their cozy lifestyle photoshoot vision. Their plan was like a dream come true—complete with a record player, coffee, beer, and their sweet pup, Suzie. It’s a recipe for magic, combining all my favorite things!
I first met Chris through a mutual friend at Spiteful Brewery, a gem of a place in Chicago (seriously, go try their beer!). When Sara told me Chris had proposed and they wanted me to capture their wedding, I was over the moon! We ironed out the details and dove into their dreamy Chicago studio engagement session.
Sara and Chris wanted to recreate their cherished mornings together—sipping coffee, enjoying music, and reading, all with Suzie snuggled up beside them. The studio was perfect, offering space to bring their favorite things and take advantage of the incredible lighting. After capturing those intimate indoor moments, we ventured outside to explore the Pilsen area. Despite being at the studio for four years, it was surprisingly my first time shooting in the Pilsen neighborhood. I loved discovering the charming spots I’d always admired from afar.
If you’re ready for a dose of heartwarming cuteness, scroll down and prepare to smile!
Are you planning an engagement session and feeling overwhelmed by the options? While scenic parks, bustling urban backdrops, and sandy beaches have their charm, there’s a wonderfully intimate option you might not have considered yet—an engagement session right in the comfort of your own home or an intimate studio with your favorite things. Not only does it add a personal touch, but it can capture the essence of your relationship in a way that’s uniquely you. Let’s explore why cozying up for a lifestyle shoot might just be the answer!
First things first, let’s talk about lifestyle photography. Unlike traditional posed photography, lifestyle photography captures candid moments in natural settings. Tell your love story through genuine interactions and everyday moments. Think less “say cheese” and more “let’s relive our Sunday morning coffee routine.” This approach results in photos that feel authentic and timeless, which is precisely what makes a lifestyle session so magical. Think of it as storytelling through images.
There’s no place like home, right? While outdoor locations sometimes feel overused, your home—or your favorite home props—are uniquely yours. Years from now, you’ll look back at these photos and remember this milestone chapter.
Your home is your sanctuary, filled with your favorite things, memories, and vibes that are uniquely yours. This comfort translates into a more relaxed and natural session. You’ll be more at ease, resulting in genuine smiles and interactions—perfect for capturing the essence of your relationship. Even a mock-home session like this can create that intimate, private feel.
Every couple has quirks and shared interests, many of which are reflected in their living space. Whether it’s your cozy reading nook, a kitchen filled with the scent of homemade cookies, or that quirky art piece you both love, your home tells your story. These personal touches provide a meaningful context to your photos, making them even more special. If you’re doing the studio session, bring your favorite items, like a blanket, record player, or coffee mug.
Worried about rain, snow, or blazing sun on the day of your shoot? An in-home or studio session means you’re protected from the elements, allowing for beautiful photos regardless of the weather. Plus, the soft, natural lighting streaming through your windows can create magical shots.
Changing outfits is a breeze when you’re at home. Want to start in cute loungewear, transition to casual wear, and end in something more glamorous? Go for it! Your wardrobe options are virtually limitless, and you won’t have to lug a garment bag around town or search for places to change.
Being at home or a private studio lets your photographer capture those sweet, unplanned moments—like brewing coffee together, dancing in the living room, or getting a little flirty in the bedroom. These moments reflect the true nature of your relationship. It’s easier to dance like no one’s watching when, in fact, no one is watching.
If you have a furry friend who’s part of your love story, incorporating them into the session is a breeze when you’re at home or in a private space. Let them join the fun and add extra cuteness to your photos!
A lifestyle photoshoot offers more flexibility than outdoor sessions that need to chase the perfect light, such as dawn and sunset’s golden hour. You can choose a time that suits your energy levels and schedules, whether it’s capturing the golden morning light, the cozy glow of evening lamps, or even a midday shoot.
While you want your home to feel lived-in, tidying can help focus attention on you rather than distractions in the background. Instead of stressing over the design, I recommend minimizing decor. A neutral, minimalist environment will allow us to focus on you and your connection.
Think about activities that are meaningful to you as a couple. Whether cooking, dancing, putting on a record, or simply lounging with a good book, these will make for heartfelt photos. Consider the areas in your home that have significance to your relationship and plan a few moments to capture there.
Opt for outfits that complement each other and the setting. Think cozy sweaters, bare feet, worn jeans, or even your favorite (yet stylish) loungewear!
Discuss your vision with me and any specific shots you’d love to capture. I’m here to make planning a breeze!
A lifestyle engagement session is a beautiful, personalized way to celebrate your love. It’s about capturing the heart and soul of your relationship in the place where you feel most at ease. If you’re looking for a way to memorialize this special time in a setting that feels like a warm hug, consider bringing the magic of lifestyle photography into your home, or book the studio with me.
