I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
Amanda & Kyle’s downtown Chicago elopement is one for the books, and honestly, my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw them. From Amanda’s stunning dress-and-cape combo (yes, a sheer CAPE!) paired with the chicest feathered shoes to Kyle’s perfectly tailored suit that looked like it came straight off a runway—these two were an actual fashion dream. Let’s just say they didn’t just elope; they made a statement.
And the best part? Beyond their impeccable style, they were so in love—it was impossible to miss the way they looked at each other. On a scale from “cute” to “oh-my-god-I’m-sobbing,” they were solidly in the someone-hand-me-a-tissue category.
The day kicked off with a quick and intimate ceremony at Chicago City Hall, where they said, “I do,” surrounded by a small group of loved ones. After some family photos outside, we hit the streets of Chicago for what I can only describe as a photographer’s dream shoot.
Amanda & Kyle wanted their portraits to feel laid-back, creative, and a little out-of-the-box—so that’s exactly what we did. First stop: the Art Institute of Chicago gardens (still obsessed), where we played with light and architecture to get some uniquely artistic shots. Then, we strolled over to The Wrigley Building to take advantage of its iconic details and classic Chicago vibes.
They were up for anything I suggested, which meant I got to lean into my creativity BIG TIME. From bold direct-flash shots outside the courthouse to dreamy motion blur portraits inside the museum, these two trusted me completely—and it made for some of my favorite photos ever. (Please scroll down to the overlapping faded painting portrait. I am in love with how that one turned out.)
This is why I LOVE elopements. Unlike a traditional wedding day, where the timeline can feel like a race against the clock, elopements give you the luxury of time. And with Amanda & Kyle, that extra time meant we could focus on creating truly unique, artful images that felt like them.
After wrapping up our portrait adventure, we headed to a nearby restaurant, where Amanda and Kyle celebrated with their family and friends. The reception was small and intimate but oh-so-stunning. Think minimal decor, black candles, velvet chairs, and an overall modern, sophisticated vibe. It was the perfect way to end their chic city celebration.
If you’re dreaming of adding some serious wow factor to your post-elopement photos, here are a few tips to help you channel Amanda & Kyle’s effortlessly chic vibe:
Your elopement look doesn’t have to be traditional. Play with textures (Amanda’s feathered shoes, anyone?), silhouettes (hello, cape moment), or unexpected details to add personality to your outfit. Don’t be afraid to go all-in on the drama—it’s your day to shine!
Chicago is packed with incredible photo spots, but the key is picking ones that reflect your vibe. If you love architecture, the Wrigley Building and its classic columns are perfection. And if you’re into nature, the Art Institute gardens bring lush greenery to the city. Consider what feels meaningful to you as a couple and lean into that.
Elopements often give you more time and flexibility to get creative, so trust your photographer to take risks and try things outside the norm. The best shots often come from thinking outside the box! Go for a pose that feels a little less traditional. You might just end up with frame-worthy art for your walls.
To create a more editorial feel, let’s experiment with different lighting techniques, like direct flash or backlighting. This is a simple way to add drama and create unique, magazine-worthy moments.
Don’t be afraid to move! Whether walking hand-in-hand, spinning in your dress, or laughing mid-step, adding motion to your photos can create a sense of authenticity and energy. Motion blur, in particular, can make your portraits feel artistic and dynamic.
Whether you incorporate a favorite accessory, pick a color scheme that feels like “you,” or find ways to tie your story into the photos, the more personal the details, the more extraordinary the result.
Even if it’s just a small gathering, details like candles, chic seating, or a fun dessert bar can make the space feel extra special without going overboard.
The best photos are the ones where you’re genuinely enjoying the moment. Laugh, dance, steal a kiss in the middle of traffic—whatever makes you feel like yourselves, do it!
Amanda and Kyle’s downtown Chicago elopement was the perfect mix of high-fashion vibes, heartfelt moments, and creative magic. Their day proved that elopements can be anything you want them to be—stylish, personal, and intentional.
So, if you’re planning a city elopement, take a page out of their book. Dress like you’re walking into your own personal runway, choose locations that make your heart skip a beat, and don’t be afraid to embrace the unexpected. Whether it’s a statement cape blowing in the city breeze or an impromptu champagne toast on the sidewalk, the magic lies in the details that feel uniquely *you*. Amanda and Kyle’s story shows that weddings aren’t just about saying “I do”—they’re about creating an experience that celebrates your love story in an authentic, stylish, and unforgettable way.
Ultimately, your elopement is a blank canvas; you can choose how to fill it. So dream big, be bold, and, most importantly, follow your heart. Whether it’s on a bustling city street or hidden in a quiet garden, your day is yours to embrace—and trust me, it’ll be nothing short of iconic.
