Ready to fall head over heels for a wedding? As autumn graces us with its golden hues and crisp air, there’s no better time to reminisce about a celebration that perfectly showcased the spirit of the season. Nichole and Ken’s wedding at Sundance Studios in Benton Harbor, Michigan, held in October 2021, was a picturesque fall affair that is guaranteed to sweep you off your feet! Plus, it gave me the perfect excuse to travel, just two hours from Chicago. (And if you know me, you know I love a wedding that involves a bit of travel.) But let’s start from the beginning.
I first met Nichole and Ken during their enchanting engagement session in Chicago. We strolled along their favorite riverside trail on a beautiful fall afternoon where they walked their adorable pup. The session ended with them sharing a cupcake from Molly’s—just like their first date! We also visited one of my favorite spots, the Field Museum—an ideal end to a perfect day. From that day, I knew their wedding would be something special.
And I wasn’t wrong.
Fast-forward a year, and their wedding day at Sundance Studios in Benton Harbor, Michigan, was nothing short of amazing. This unique garden venue, just two hours from Chicago, was founded by a visionary husband-and-wife duo who are brilliant artists and designers who love love and have a passion for hosting.
They transformed an abandoned bank, a historic blacksmith shop, and a farm equipment station into a one-of-a-kind venue that can best be described as a chic rustic farmhouse meets enchanted garden party. The overflowing greenery is the star feature, transporting couples and their guests to a dreamy, green paradise on their wedding day.
The Briske’s enjoy designing and hosting events so much that they actually have three stunningly unique venues just a few minutes from each other: The Blue Dress Barn, The Millcreek Wilde, and Sundance Studios.
They wanted their venues to be convenient for out-of-towners and Chicago couples while maximizing the scenic setting of Southwest Michigan near the lake. Millburg is only about ten minutes from all the resorts if guests prefer to stay there, but it gets you away from the hustle and bustle so you can enjoy your day privately. It’s the best of both worlds!
Nichole’s vintage Oscar De La Renta shoes were a standout detail among many that made the day unforgettable and beautifully complemented the garden theme. The vibe from their family and wedding party was pure joy as they surrounded Nichole and Ken in love and support.
The day began with fun shots in the charming bridal and groom suites, followed by an adorable first look and adventurous couple photos. Everyone was game to walk down the town’s quiet streets, adding to the nostalgic feel and creating picture-perfect moments. Truly, their day is what I imagine when I think of a dreamy fall wedding. There were plenty of elegant details to elevate the design without taking away from the cozy, intimate feel. The balance was perfection!
Then, their heartfelt ceremony included a virtual appearance by Ken’s parents, keeping with the 2021 spirit, and added a layer of emotional depth that everyone cherished. The pandemic and international travel made things challenging that year, but they made it work, and it was so sweet (even if FaceTime got flipped upside down for a bit). I loved their smiles, genuine kindness, and laid-back personalities. It made the day feel extra meaningful, and it’s easy to see that their favorite place is with each other—as it should be.
After their showstopping kiss, it was time to party! The reception area featured a stunning vintage chandelier, casting a warm, romantic glow over the festivities. Nichole and Ken’s homegrown succulent centerpieces were a delightful personal touch that connected the day’s theme of love, growth, and beauty. They even sent me home with one as a little piece of their special day that I treasure.
In short, it was the perfect wedding day. Nichole and Ken’s love story, set against the backdrop of Sundance Studios, created memories that will last a lifetime. But don’t just take my word for it—scroll down and see for yourself!
Whether you’re planning your own celebration or simply love swooning over beautiful weddings, Nichole and Ken’s celebration at Sundance and the Secret Garden is not short on inspiration. With its rich history and artistic transformation, this venue offers a magical setting that will make any couple’s wedding dreams come true. Here’s to love, laughter, and happily ever after in the heart of Michigan!
