This session is my ideal way to do a Chicago family session! Kids are going to be kids, right? So let them be! When Katie first came to me with the idea of doing a super candid Chicago family session, I was so excited! I love capturing kids just doing their thing- I think it is a much better way to show your growing family vs trying to be super posed. While of course we always have to get in some posed “smile and look at the camera” moments, I find that those are actually easier post running around and playing anyway! Plus, then your little ones will be tired for the rest of the evening and have an easy bedtime 😉

I met up with this adorable family at Fort Sheridan on an overcast October afternoon, and found them catching crickets. So right away I knew this would be an adventure. All three kids came running up to me to show off their new pets, which was such a great way for us all to feel comfortable around each other from the get-go. We then took off to explore this stunning area of forest, and that plus the props they brought (favorite stuffed animals, a blanket) made for some great images. Plus, how perfect are their outfits?? Those little girl dresses still just kill me- too cute! Blue & white is my favorite color combo, especially for photos, and so I think they just nailed their looks. This was such a fun afternoon with this beautiful family, and I can’t wait to do more sessions like this in the future 🙂
