I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
You all know how much I adore high-end bridal fashion. As a fashion enthusiast and wedding photographer, I’m absolutely smitten with wedding clothes and accessories. So, when I have the chance to collaborate with a fabulous bridal shop, it’s pure magic for me!
For this featured photoshoot, I teamed up with my go-to vendor dream team (a bit smaller than usual for this quick session) and our gorgeous model, Lidiia. Together, we created bridal art. If you want to go beyond traditional bridal portraits and make a statement, embrace your inner model and book a styled studio session with me! I love collaborating with brides, stylists, and vendors, and I’m ready when you are.
We had a blast experimenting with different styles for this styled shoot, from our signature light and airy shots to some bold, fashion-forward images featuring direct flash. These sessions are all about creativity and fun, and as an artist, I believe in pushing boundaries and trying new things.
Dive into this high-end bridal fashion inspiration and let it spark your creativity just as it has mine. Enjoy, and I hope you find the inspiration you’re looking for!
This may be a styled shoot, but it’s here for real, achievable inspiration! First off, congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! If you’re here, it means you’re not just planning a wedding; you’re curating an experience and want every detail to be picture-perfect. As a Chicago-based fine art photographer, I’ve enjoyed capturing countless brides in their most stunning moments. Today, I’m here to share insider tips on elevating your bridal style for those high-fashion, fine-art bridal portraits you’ve been dreaming about.
Regarding your bridal portraits, think timeless and refined rather than trendy. Classic styles will always have a place in the world of fine art. Opt for a gown, and maybe some additional fashion ensembles, that speak to your personal style yet embody a sense of timelessness. Lace, silk, and satin materials photograph beautifully and lend themselves to that high-end feel.
Accessories can make or break your look (fear not, I’d never let you break your look!). Bring along some pieces that complement your gown without overpowering it. Consider vintage jewelry for a touch of old-world charm or minimalist pieces that add a subtle sparkle. You could also bring a statement piece, such as colorful shoes, earrings, or ribbons. A tiara is a fabulous way to add extra sparkle if you envision princess vibes. And don’t forget your shoes! They may not always be in the shot, but a beautiful pair completes your look and adds to your confidence. (If you’re unsure where to incorporate color, I’m always a fan of emerald, sapphire, ruby, or pink shoes!)
*I love styling sessions, so don’t hesitate to ask for guidance. There are no wrong questions! Honing your personal style is an ever-changing lifetime endeavor.
For that timeless, fine-art look, aim for classic makeup and hairstyling. Think soft, romantic waves or a chic updo paired with natural, glowing makeup. Avoid overly trendy looks that might date your photos in a few years. A professional makeup artist and hairstylist can help you achieve that polished, high-fashion appearance that will stand the test of time.
The backdrop of your bridal portraits can elevate the entire aesthetic. Chicago offers many stunning locations—from the Art Institute’s classical architecture to Lincoln Park Conservatory’s natural beauty. Choose a setting that complements your style and adds to the fine art feel. Sometimes, a simple studio setting with the right lighting can be just as powerful. A studio is an excellent canvas for the art we will create.
There’s something utterly romantic about a flowing veil or a gown with layers of tulle. Fabrics that move and catch the light can add a dramatic or delicate quality to your photos. Don’t be afraid to play around! Let your veil catch the breeze or twirl to see your dress in motion.
I will guide you through poses that highlight your best features and convey a sense of grace and elegance. Think soft, natural movements and avoid stiff or overly posed shots. You don’t need to prep a shot list, but you’re welcome to share some creative poses you’d like to try. You can sit back and trust me to guide you and capture those candid, in-between moments that often result in the most stunning images.
One of the hallmarks of fine art photography is the masterful use of light and shadow. For an on-location outdoor session, we’ll take advantage of the golden hours – early morning or late afternoon – when the light is soft and flattering.
Whenever possible, we’ll opt for natural light. A soft, diffused glow can add depth and a painterly quality to your photos. If your shoot is indoors, we’ll position our set near large windows to make the most of natural lighting, enhancing your features and creating beautiful, ethereal images.
A beautifully arranged bouquet can add a pop of color and an element of nature to your portraits. Choose flowers that complement your color scheme and add texture to your photos. Whether it’s a cascade of roses or a simple collection of wildflowers, your bouquet should feel like an extension of your style.
Incorporate elements that are uniquely you – a family heirloom, a special bouquet, or even your beloved pet. These personal touches add depth and meaning to your portraits, making them truly one-of-a-kind.
Perhaps the most important tip of all is to stay relaxed and enjoy the moment. Your joy, love, and excitement will naturally shine through, creating authentic and beautiful portraits. Trust in your photographer’s vision and expertise; remember that this is your moment to shine. If you don’t like something, let me know!
I hope these tips help you prepare for your high-fashion, fine-art bridal portraits. Remember, the most stunning photos come from a place of joy and authenticity. Here’s to capturing your beauty and elegance in the heart of Chicago!
