I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
As someone who’s been photographing couples in Chicago for years, there’s something extra special when you get to document a dear friend’s love story. Giselle and I have collaborated countless times over the years—she’s one of Chicago’s best bridal makeup artists, and her incredible work speaks for itself. (Seriously, check out her magic in action with Ada and Jeremey’s chic elopement at Pasteur!) Watching her go from friend and creative partner to radiant bride was indescribably wonderful. There’s nothing quite like capturing a friend celebrating love, especially someone who spends all her days making other brides feel beautiful on their special day. Their intimate Chicago elopement made my heart flutter.
(If you want to get to know Giselle and Johnny’s love story from the start, check out their adorable Ping Tom Park engagement session with their furbabies. But today, I’m sharing a peek into their intimate and joy-filled elopement day right here in Chicago—plus some tips for couples considering eloping in public spaces.)
Speaking of making brides feel beautiful, Giselle decided to do her own makeup for the elopement. As any experienced makeup artist will tell you, it’s one thing to create gorgeous looks for other people, but doing your own bridal makeup requires an entirely different level of skill. Giselle, as always, absolutely rocked it. She opted for her signature, subtle, sultry look —a soft yet impactful style that photographs beautifully. It captured her personality perfectly—warm, genuine, and effortlessly chic.
Giselle and Johnny began their day in the coziest way possible—getting ready together in their apartment with their pets. Dogs and cats, big and small, seemed just as excited for the big day. (As a pet lover myself, photographing couples with their fur babies always makes my heart full.) One of my most cherished moments from their day was Johnny helping Giselle button the back of her dress. There was something so quietly sweet about that gesture.
If you’re planning an intimate elopement, my first piece of advice is to intentionally build moments like these into your schedule. Often, couples get caught up in timelines and logistics. But having that extra space in your day for quiet, genuine moments is something you’ll never regret. These seemingly small actions become some of your favorite memories, more meaningful than any carefully orchestrated event ever could be. The vows and kisses matter, of course, but the small gestures, gentle touches, and private laughs tell the full story of your wedding day.
After savoring their morning together, Giselle and Johnny decided to tie the knot in a heartfelt yet simple ceremony at Douglass Park in Pilsen. It was just us—Giselle, Johnny, their officiant, and me. As their photographer and friend, it felt extraordinary to witness this intimate exchange of promises. There was no audience to impress and no stress of guests arriving late. It was just the two of them, incredibly present, fully savoring every meaningful word and quiet moment.
Inspired to elope in the Windy City? You’re in luck—Chicago boasts parks and outdoor spaces that are perfect for intimate ceremonies.
For couples planning their own intimate Chicago elopement, pick a public park, garden, or outdoor space that speaks to you. Chicago has so many dreamy little corners that are ideal for romantic elopements. Here are just a few of my favorites:
A serene hidden gem tucked within Lincoln Park, offering tranquility and romantic ambiance right in the city.
Vibrant with greenery, waterways, and plenty of charming spots for quiet ceremonies—perfect for nature-loving city dwellers.
With unmatched skyline views just steps from Navy Pier, it offers some of the most iconic backdrops Chicago can give.
Rich greenery and a beautiful glasshouse, ideal for couples who want a natural feel without worrying about Chicago weather.
A meaningful favorite, especially if you’ve followed Giselle and Johnny’s love story from their engagement session at this lovely spot.
Lakefront location with stunning skyline views, especially beautiful during sunrise or sunset.
Flowers, greenery, and charming pathways make it a top option for aesthetic appeal.
A peaceful retreat nestled along the lakefront, this sanctuary offers a secluded, whimsical vibe with wildflowers, dune grasses, and birdsong all around—ideal for couples seeking a quiet, ethereal space to exchange vows away from the bustle of the city.
Remember that parks and public spaces are shared. Be flexible and prepared for the occasional curious passerby. Most people are very mindful and respectful of ceremonies, but occasionally, a passerby may not realize what’s happening and accidentally find their way into a shot. But I think that gives it extra character. Having a weekday or sunrise ceremony can often give you more privacy. Also, always double-check park regulations beforehand—most require simple permits, and it’s worth ensuring your celebration is allowed and stress-free.
At its heart, eloping is about celebrating the love, connection, and authenticity between two people. Giselle and Johnny nailed that perfectly, keeping things relaxed, intimate, and true to themselves. It’s always a joy as a photographer to capture these genuine moments, and even more so when it’s a dear friend celebrating a milestone day.
Giselle and Johnny, thank you for trusting me to document your beautiful, meaningful day. May your journey ahead be as sweet, authentic, and cozy as the one you began together in those quiet moments. Here’s to a lifetime of laughter, shared adventures, and love that stays as real and radiant as it was on your wedding day.
