Sometimes, the wedding day doesn’t check all the photography boxes—and honestly, that’s okay. Weddings are big, beautiful, fast-paced events full of moving parts. Your timeline might feel tight, the weather might not cooperate, or maybe you just didn’t have enough time to capture those dreamy couple’s portraits you envisioned. That’s where a post-wedding photoshoot comes in!
They say you can’t bring back a moment, and while you may not be able to return to your wedding day, you can certainly recreate it. Your wedding day is one of the most significant milestones in your life, and you deserve to have photos you adore to document it. If that didn’t happen in the first round for any reason at all, don’t fret! We can absolutely make it happen.
I recently returned to NYC for one of my couples who wanted a fresh set of newlywed portraits. I’d worked with them before on their NYC engagement session but was unavailable to photograph their wedding. After the big day, they reached out to book a session with me so they could have some consistent, cohesive photos that matched the same style they loved from their engagement.
We met at Carl Schurz Park—a spot they love for its quiet charm and views of the East River. It’s where they often go to walk, unwind, and just enjoy being together. The session was everything they wanted: sweet, relaxed, and romantic. No guests waiting on them, no rushing to the next event, and no stress about timelines. Just them, their wedding outfits, and plenty of time to soak in their newlywed glow.
If you’re considering a post-wedding shoot or honeymoon photos, here are a few reasons why they’re worth it:
Rain happens, clouds roll in, and sometimes Mother Nature doesn’t play nice. A post-wedding photoshoot gives you another chance to capture those outdoor shots in perfect weather.
Maybe your wedding photos didn’t quite capture the vibe you were dreaming of, or you hired a different photographer for your big day. A post-wedding shoot can bring in the creative vision you really wanted with no pressure or time crunch.
Wedding days are busy. Between getting ready, the ceremony, and keeping guests entertained, it’s not always easy to carve out time for intimate couple portraits. A post-wedding shoot allows you to slow down and truly soak in the moment.
With no timeline or wedding-day rush, post-wedding shoots leave plenty of room for creative poses, unique locations, and experimenting with different styles.
On your wedding day, you might be limited to your venue for photos. A post-wedding shoot lets you pick a location that feels meaningful or adventurous—whether it’s a favorite park, a dreamy rooftop, or even the streets of NYC at golden hour. You could even look up elopement photos and see what inspires you!
You spent months (or more!) picking out the dress, the suit, the look—and you probably didn’t want to take it off at the end of the night. A post-wedding shoot is the perfect excuse to wear it again (without having to worry about keeping it pristine before walking down the aisle). And hey, if you’re feeling bold, this is your chance to embrace a little adventure with your attire—think sandy beaches, city streets, or even a little “trash the dress” fun!
On the other hand, maybe you weren’t thrilled with your hair, makeup, or dress on the wedding day—or maybe you just want to try something new. A post-wedding shoot gives you the freedom to change things up and feel your absolute best.
Without a room full of guests waiting on you, you can relax, enjoy the process, and focus on each other. It’s just you, your partner, and a chance to soak in the “just married” magic all over again.
Weddings are incredible, but they’re also shared with dozens (or hundreds!) of loved ones. A post-wedding session celebrates what comes next—just the two of you soaking in the fact that you’re married now. It’s intimate, memorable, and a beautiful way to capture your connection outside of the big day chaos.
If you’ve tied the knot (congratulations, by the way!) and are already missing the magic of those wedding day vibes, a post-wedding photoshoot might be the perfect excuse to slip back into your wedding attire and soak up all that newlywed energy.
So, if you didn’t get all the shots you dreamed of on your wedding day or if you just want another excuse to celebrate your love (spoiler: you don’t need one ), let’s chat about creating something unforgettable together.
Your love story deserves all the chapters. Let’s write the next one.
XOXO,
Danielle, NYC Wedding Photographer
