I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
There’s not much I love more than photographing love stories in New York City! And when I get to combine that with celebrating two of my favorite people, Angela and James, it becomes an absolutely unforgettable experience. Their recent anniversary session in Central Park was the perfect mix of romance, style, and classic New York charm.
Angela and James are no strangers to my lens—or my life! These two tied the knot back in 2019 with a dreamy Malibu, California, wedding that I was honored to witness not only as a photographer but as a bridesmaid. (Yes, they’re that special to me!) Since then, we’ve made it a tradition to capture their milestones. It’s been such an incredible journey as their photographer and friend, from their wedding day to their newborn session earlier this year for their sweet little one! For this shoot, though, it was all about the two of them—celebrating their love and the life they’ve built together.
Central Park has to be one of the most magical places in New York City for a photo session—and Angela and James brought their own magic to it. The weather was perfect, with the city just waking up to spring. Pops of pink from blooming cherry blossoms and lush greenery gave Central Park a vibrant, fresh energy that mirrored Angela and James’ chemistry. We wandered through Bethesda Terrace, the Bow Bridge, and some of those charming hidden corners only NYC locals seem to know.
One of my favorite moments? The time we spent at the iconic Bethesda Terrace Lower Passage. The intricate tilework and moody light provided a stunning backdrop, and their thoughtfully chosen outfits elevated the entire scene. (I’ll share tips on that in a moment!)
Let me tell you, these two know how to dress for the camera! Angela was a vision in her emerald green dress, perfectly paired with simple gold jewelry for a touch of elegance. For added movement, her dress flowed and swirled as she walked. James matched her in a handsome royal blue suit with subtle texture, giving his look depth and personality. Together, they looked like they had stepped straight out of a magazine spread.
Their clothing choices worked so well in this urban setting. Central Park in spring is a mix of natural and architectural elements, so their solid, bold colors stood out without being too loud. You’d think we walked miles to change up the scenery, but Central Park seamlessly transitions from one setting to the next. Bethesda Terrace’s Lower Passage gave off a moody and romantic vibe, while the blossoming trees offered whimsy and life just on the other side. The emerald green and royal blue were a dynamic yet cohesive pairing, and they even matched the tiles in Bethesda Terrace (a happy coincidence, but it couldn’t have been more perfect!).
If Angela and James taught us anything during this shoot (besides how to smile with your eyes on command—seriously, they’re naturals), it’s that your outfit can set the tone for your session. Their color choices were spot on, so here are a few tips inspired by their winning wardrobe:
In a city setting, neutral architecture and busy backgrounds can overwhelm your photos, so stand out with rich, eye-catching shades. Emerald green, royal blue, mustard yellow, or deep red are all fantastic options.
Instead of wearing the exact same color, pick hues that complement each other for a dynamic yet harmonious look. Angela and James nailed this with their green dress and blue suit combo.
Where you’re shooting can influence what you wear. For example, nature-heavy settings like a park might call for softer, more natural tones, while urban environments are great for bolder choices.
Small patterns or textures can add interest, but keep them minimal to avoid cluttering the composition. Solids are always a safe and striking choice.
Jewelry, shoes, and even props like hats can elevate your look, but make sure they don’t compete for attention. Angela’s delicate gold jewelry was the perfect touch.
I’m so grateful to Angela and James for trusting me to capture their love story over the years. This session was all about them as a couple, but stay tuned—there’s more to share! Their little one joined us for a separate family shoot (coming in my next post), and I can’t wait to show you the magic of this sweet trio.
As I reflect on this Central Park session, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to do what I do. Moments like these—laughter under cherry blossoms, quiet glances exchanged on a bridge, and the joyful familiarity of two people who genuinely adore each other—are why I love being a photographer.
Happy anniversary, Angela and James! Here’s to love, friendship, and the stories that tie it all together.
Until next time,
Danielle
