I'm so glad you're here. I'm Danielle, a fine art wedding & lifestyle photographer with a focus on capturing magical moments.
Oh, Central Park! How you’ve twirled your leafy fingers around the hearts of lovers and photographers alike. And when it comes to capturing the essence of love, there’s no better place to snap the shutter than in the vibrant heart of New York City. Recently, I had the joy of documenting Cassie and Neal’s swoon-worthy engagement session right in the middle of the Big Apple’s most iconic green space.
Let’s rewind a bit. In late 2021, I received a message from Joe—a model I had the pleasure of working with in New York a few years ago. Joe had a proposition that immediately made my creativity tingle—his friends Cassie and Neal were getting married and wanted me to shoot their engagement session. To New York? For an engagement shoot? Cue the enthusiastic YES! (By the way, Joe—thanks for making this happen! You’re a rockstar.)
Fast forward a month, and I was standing outside the ever-glamorous Plaza Hotel. It was a gorgeous early November afternoon, and I was ready, camera in hand. Cassie and Neal arrived looking like they had just stepped out of a romantic movie. Cassie turned heads in her red velvet dress and those Manolo Blahniks that would undoubtedly make Carrie Bradshaw proud, while Neal complemented her look with his own impeccable ensemble. Later, she slipped into a beaded cream dress and beautiful blue Manolo Blahniks. (I might have had a touch of envy.)
From the Plaza, we ventured into Central Park. This wasn’t just any walk; it was a leisurely exploration of all their favorite spots. They twirled through the Bethesda Terrace, shared a moment at Bow Bridge, and stole kisses by the Conservatory Garden.
Documenting their story was like catching love in a bottle. These two have known each other for ages, and you could sense their readiness to step into the next chapter of their lives together. Their chemistry was undeniable, and every click of the shutter captured that connection and anticipation.
We wrapped up our session at my personal favorite, The New York Public Library. The grandeur of the architecture contrasted beautifully with the natural setting of their Central Park portraits. These picture-perfect moments would feel right at home in a modern-day fairy tale. All in all, their NYC engagement session was nothing short of spectacular, just as I knew it would be. I wish these two the very best!
Thinking about doing an engagement session in a bustling city like NYC or Chicago? Here’s what you need to know:
Pick places that resonate with you as a couple. Be it the quiet corners of Central Park or the energetic streets of Chicago, make sure the locations tell your story and authentically represent who you are together as a couple.
Channel your inner fashionista. Cassie’s dresses and shoes were a dream, adding that extra touch of glamour and style to the photos. Remember, your outfits should make you feel confident and fabulous.
Opt for early mornings or late afternoons. Not only will you get the best light, but you’ll also avoid the peak hours of hustle and bustle.
It’s all part of NYC’s charm. Embrace the hustle and bustle and use it to your advantage. Spontaneous moments often turn out to be the most memorable.
Okay, maybe not “shmermit” because in some places, like galleries or museums, you’ll need a permit for professional photography. If you give me an idea of places you want to visit, we can do our research beforehand so we are prepared with permits or reservations in hand.
Cities are unpredictable—embrace it! Whether it’s an unexpected street performer, an impromptu parade, a rain shower (bring out the clear umbrella), or your favorite food cart, these spontaneous moments can add local charm to your photos.
The most important tip is to enjoy the moment! Let your love shine through, and trust your photographer to capture the magic.
Shooting in a city like New York always feels like a creative jolt—each session a new adventure, each corner a canvas. While Chicago is my home base, the allure of NYC keeps me coming back for more. Cassie and Neal’s Central Park session showcased the allure and romance that the city holds, and I can’t wait to return for more Central Park engagements in the future.
Feeling inspired to plan your own city engagement shoot? Grab your map and Manolos (or your favorite sneakers), and make some magic in the city that never sleeps! Cheers to Cassie and Neal, and all the couples ready to embark on their romantic journeys!
Until next time, happy planning and happy snapping! ✨
